In-House Fish Veterinarian: Paul Manesis - BSc MVB CertAqVDr

Manesis grew up on the shores of New Jersey USA and like most of you, kept fish since a small child and always enjoyed them. His fishkeeping hobbies included predator freshwater fish, breeding seahorses, and propagating corals.

  • Dr. Manesis completed an undergraduate degree from LaSalle University with an Integrated Science, Business, Technology (ISBT) major and biology minor, then a veterinary degree from University College Dublin in Ireland.

He further went on to complete a certificate in aquatic animal medicine through the World Aquatic Veterinary Medical Association (WAVMA).

Dr. Manesis thoroughly enjoys tending to the fish at Fish and Bird Emporium and strives to maintain the healthiest of fish populations. He can be seen walking the facility handpicking batches of fish for testing. Dr. Manesis will anesthetize and sample fish for routine physical exams or for diagnosing diseases that may be apparent. With his meticulous attention to detail we are happy to have him on our team. Currently, Dr. Manesis has a mixed peaceful freshwater tank and a koi pond.

When Dr.Manesis is not working, he likes to spend time with his wife and two daughters, teaching them all about fish and bees. His other hobbies include leatherwork, beekeeping, and boxing.

Fish and Bird Delivery Fleet Behind.jpg

When

Our deliveries are sent out from Tuesday to Friday. Fish, plant and bird orders must be placed the day before your location’s scheduled delivery day. Rodent and cricket orders must be placed a few days in advance because they are supplied by other vendors and not kept in our facilities. Once we know your weekly delivery day, all the necessary information will be provided.

Holidays

Some holidays require us to shift our delivery days. If a holiday is coming up, please be sure to call us to see how it will affect your delivery day and time. Delivery changes can happen very quickly. When in doubt, call us.

Where

We have primarily served pet stores in Ontario, however due to popular demand we have been delivering (with our trucks) to the Maritimes such as New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI and also Newfoundland for many years now. We have 30 employees and a fleet of 15 trucks that go out each day for deliveries.

If you own a pet store, call us and see if you’re on any of our delivery routes and which day of the week your delivery would arrive on. We also ship via air Canada-wide. In this case, the customer is responsible for receiving the shipment at the airport.

Our History

Fish & Bird Emporium was established in 1984 by Co-owners Louie Gialedakis & Joe Tusim.

At that time Louie owned a pet store and Joe was in sales with a fish wholesaler in Fort Erie. It was through their weekly interactions they developed a friendship and decided to go into business together as a tropical fish and bird wholesaler sharing the same passion for the industry and offering unique strengths and attributes to complement each other. It's a partnership that remains strong to this day.

The business started with a small unit in Hamilton using plastic kids’ pools to hold fish as we didn’t have the equity to build a more suitable facility.  Over time we kept moving to larger facilities in Mississauga then Brampton before ultimately moving to Innisfil in 2004 where we are today.

Please Note

We ONLY sell to PET STORES.
We’re sorry but we do not sell to the public.
